Christina Bailey is the Chief Executive Director and lead psychotherapist at Gateway. Here is some information about her to give you a clearer picture of the therapy she offers and to help you make an informed choice....

Iam a mindfulness cognitive behaviour psychotherapist (MCBT) and an experiential counselling and psychodynamic therapist, my approach is integrative. I specialise in most issues including stress, anxiety, depression, anger management, adult survivors of childhood abuse, O.C.D, phobias and panic attacks, illness phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder, and bereavement issues. I work with partners in crisis i.e. someone who has been in an abusive relationship with a personality disorder partner. I am also a drugs and alcohol addiction counsellor and a group therapy counsellor.

I am the author and psychotherapist/trainer of our very successful group counselling programmes, which you can read more about on our services page.

I firmly believe all of the ‘Talking Therapies’ have their place and as therapists we are all working towards the same end: healing mental anguish and emotional suffering. One size most definitely does not fit all, no two people’s requirements are the same and no two people are the same. You are that unique individual that makes up you.

What can you expect when having your therapy with me? You can expect that my journey starts with your journey ‘we are a team’ and everyone at some time or another needs an understanding listening ear and some help to cope with their life experiences.

You can expect me to be kind, consistent, to have boundaries, to be non-judgemental, to gently challenge you if you are falling back into old patterns of relating, to work with you to help you see through the layers of defences or denial you might have built up as a way of coping. You can expect me to help you unravel past experiences and the building of your past core values. To also help you establish where you are now on your journey and where you want to go.

I do not believe that the mind and body are two separate entities I work holistically with both. I work with fear, anger, and attachment to the past issues, to assist you in working towards healthier emotional choices towards living in the present.

You can also expect me to take time to understand your needs and the pace in which you like to work, to be sensitive to your life experiences and to work from your frame of reference not my own. You can expect me to ask if I do not understand any of your experiences and to summarise what you are telling me to make sure I have a clear and accurate picture of you.

You can also expect me to work with any outside constraints you may have, be it time, monetary, or another. To put in place anything you may need to help you access therapy, or sign post you to another one of our services, or an outside service which may best serve your requirements.

I participate in continuing professional development and consultancy/supervision, I am fully insured. I am a member of a couple of professional bodies one being The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
